ASA is a leader in pilot flight training software and version 2.0 of the GPS Trainer software will assist pilots in mastering their GPS units for VFR and IFR operation. A pilot can learn the complete functions of the Apollo GX 50/60, Bendix King KLN 89B & 94, Garmin GNS 430 & 530, and GPSMAP 295 GPS units. To accelerate the learning process and assist with memory retention, the CD-ROM media trainer uses movie clips, animations, original figures and diagrams to support the textual descriptions. Emulators integrate with the tutorial for hands-on practice of each task. This program is so complete that the pilot will learn the function of each button and each knob. All the necessary navigation tasks are addressed including data entry, flight planning, nearest and direct-to operations, IFR departures & arrivals, and GPS & overlay approaches The tutorial is organized into five units. The Theory Unit covers GPS technology, RAIM, navigation terms, accuracy, GPS advantages, GPS NOTAMs, conventional vs. GPS data, databases, GPS regulations, and exercises. The Preflight Unit covers topics such as introductions, receiver orientations, preflight action, power-up, data entry & unit navigation, waypoints, flight plans for VFR & IFR with exercises and quizzes. The Enroute Unit covers navigation pages, direct-to, flight plan activation, messages, OBS mode, IFR departures & arrivals, nearest function, RAIM with other enroute functions and exercises. The Terminal Unit features approach setup, procedure turns, missed approach procedure, approach with hold DME Arc approach, vectors to final, approach problems, and terminal exercises. The Approach Unit covers the topics of GPS approach procedures, overlay approaches, communications, GPS TSOs, executing the approach, RNAV chart format and exercises.
