Could someone giver me very detailed instructions on how to do a flying change? Thanks

Eh…Flying lead changes are hard to tell over the internet, but I’ll do my best.

So for example, lets say you were going to canter on a circle to the left. So when you go for that left lead, you ask for your horse’s head to the inside and push with your outside leg. So now your in a small circle to the left.

So now your going to do a figure 8. So right at the top of the circle you break your horse down to a trot, and now that your going on the right lead you gently ask for your horse’s head on the right then squeeze with your inside leg (your left leg). Then you go off.

You come around again to the top of the circle, break down to the trot, ask for your horses head to the left, and use your outside leg (right leg) then canter off.

It takes a lot out of a horse to do a flying lead change. So this will take a while.

Eventually you wouldn’t have to break down to a trot, you can just do a lead change in the top of the circle, using your cues. Once your horse ‘gets’ your cues then try a straight line.

Lets say your going in a straight line and your horse takes up the left lead. Bring your horse down to a trot, use your same cues and go out for a lead change. Keep doing it until you can just canter without breaking down to a trot and you can just use your cues.

This is something your going to have to talk to a trainer about because its hard to explain it on the web.
