It’s all about time.
Each overnight business trip on the airlines costs you at least four hours of wasted business time. And that’s on non-stop flights. If the airlines make you connect, you’ll lose six business hours per overnight trip.

Chartering a jet, on the other hand, allows you to fly directly to your destination, usually non-stop. In most cases, you can fly there and back the same day. You will save anywhere from four to six business hours per trip by using jet charter.

When travelling on a private chartered flight, are there any planes with the facility of being able to use your own mobile phones? Or do only have use of the onboard phone?

No.

The thing is the "use" of your mobile phone is not determined by the charter company, but by the actual design of the network that your moblile phone "talks to".

mobile phones are actually small radio transceivers (Transmitters/Receivers). When they are switched on, they boost their transmit power to high until they get a response from a cellular base station (like the silver rods you see on some tall masts). Unfortunately if the mobile phone is up high in an airplane its transmit power could try to connect to many different cellular base station and the network would then go crazy trying to work out which base station to connect your mobile phone to.

This is why, apart from the possible interference with the aircrafts electronic equipments (which are key to you being safe up there) is why airlines insist that mobile phones are switched off.

The "onboard phone" is actually a Satellite phone, which only "connects" up to one satellite and then back down to an earth based network.
