@sabomnim888: I thought “gung fu” was a Cantonese way of saying it. I guess a clarification on my part would be the term “wushu”. and i apologize to all for stating anything about wing chun. It was a misinterpretation of information on my part.

  • Sabomnim888 says:

    @vidgamek1 …It’s …
@vidgamek1 …It’s wing “chun”, not “chung” and it’s “gung” fu, not “kung” fu, and it was not developed on “the streets” of Hong Kong. What are you reading? It was developed about 1500 years ago in a Buddist Temple in Northern China, by a woman, way before the five animal systems, and before it was introduced to the Shoalin monks.

    Funny how this …
Funny how this whole page is full of masters and experts. Man, if I would have known I could find the masters here, I wouldn’t have spent 34 yrs. and $50, 000 in the dojang’s and dojo’s, I could have just listen to the youtube know-it-all’s.

I am sorry dude but …
I am sorry dude but, you are mistaken. WC origins r unknown, and the best lead is Yipman’s story of the origin. TKD is a very powerful martial art tht is very destructive if practiced right. All MA’s styles are just extensions of each other.

    that might not have …
that might not have been tkd’s purpose but its has several applications to be used in street combat, at least more modern tkd.

    there is still good …
there is still good moves in taekwondo for street fight. kicks are more effective then punch some poeple say just grab the leg but if you do the kicks right it’s really hard to grab and there is punch in taekwondo my teacher is teaching me shotokan with taekwondo the both together is really good

    Oh no I just saw a …
Oh no I just saw a Kajukenbo video and it’s the same as my issue with Krav Maga I’m afraid. In the two-handed grab for example, there’s no threat. Just punch the guy in the face. Simple. Again that could have been done in the second move, but no. Directness and economy of motion. Also you want to end each encounter as soon as possible so someone else doesn’t attack you.

    Don’t forget JKD, …
Don’t forget JKD, Silat, Kadochnikov Systema, and even though I’m a stand-up fighter, wrestling is too complex to be ignored (for defending, but also throws during clench). Catch wrestling is simple yet effective. Judo and Sambo are more complete than BJJ as they involve lots of throws. Sanda, Kun Tao are nice additions. Krav Maga is too ambitious IMO, it focuses on progressive devasting moves that aren’t easily adapted, rather than simple, direct, solid and instant-benefit concepts of WC.

I HAVE TO USE THIS ON THE STREETS all the time, cuz there’s always two guys ready to attck me who stand about six feet apart and 10 feet in front of me, which makes this kick the choice attack

israeli fighting is the they dont give you any room to perform stuff like this its the combat that SF, seals and marines take. krav maga is lethal

  • terdburgalor says:

    By the most flashy …
By the most flashy technique are you talking about stuff like this and like the butterfly twist? Or do you mean spinning hook kicks and the tornado kick? The kicks that are only for looks are used in forms for competitions and demonstrations and are only for showing off. Whereas a spinning hook kick or tornado kick has the power to knock someone out in one hit and possibly even permanently damage the facial structure.

    true… true… :D
    true… true… :D

  • c2sharp says:

    krav maga is …
krav maga is definitely a preferred self defense but I would recommend it to those that have skill and able to defend close range or possible both because tae kwon do is usually for those with longer range or those who want to keep or strike from a distance and walk away but I actually believe you can take n e self defense or martial art but still don’t mean you won’t get your whipped lol

yeah krav maga is freaken deadly they use it in the army in iraq it’s really effective

  • bonoyeah says:

    these kind of kicks …
these kind of kicks help you to get discipline
and make your other kicks more powerful

so,dont think learning this kind of staff is a waste of time

it helps evaluate all your kiccks,by giving you discipline and ability

    yeah i feel ya

    yeah i feel ya

and we do sparr and stuff and you wouldnt think but some of our stuff is more effective than it looks, idk about this kick lol i doubt id use it if i needed to defend myself
but as far as defending yourself we get taught self defense techniques as well like take downs and such
muay thai is a great martial art too tho

    If you guys really …
If you guys really just want to learn a technique that’ll help you in a real life threatening situation, or a street fight, just learn krav maga. They use real life situations and teach you everything from temporarily knocking someone unconcious to disarming someone.

  • bhowie777 says:

    Well I train at a …
Well I train at a Muay Thai gym and there is really an unspoken respect among the fighters and all the gym members and trainers. I dont get the purpose of taking up a Martial Arts with no intent to fight. Not in the street but at least sparring.but WHAT iF YOU NEED TO PROTECT YOURSELF in the street ? It could happen. How could most of the flashy technique used in TKD help you protect yourself?
